DIRT RIDER TESTED

Dirt Rider -
"For riders who have avoided gel grips because of their larger size, this might be the answer.

So who will like these? Just about anyone who suffers from arm-pump on a regular basis, doesn't enjoy shredding their palms or simply wants more hand comfort on long rides."

"Spider Grips have been around for a few years now and are better than ever. We like them for their control and comfort wet or dry."

To add to our handlebar comfort we installed a set of Spider's dual density, slimline grips ($17). The stock grips are made of a semi-hard compound and are uncomfortable for long aggressive riding. The Spider grips have a soft gel layer that reduces vibration for improved comfort. These new generation Spider grips are much better than the Spider grips we tested about two years ago. They are more comfortable, durable and resist heat as good as any grip out there.(May 2004)

For those who like soft dual compound grips but also want something slim, your wishes have been granted. The folks at Spider took their grip and designed a lower-profile sibling that offers the original's vibration damping, a slightly sticky outer layer and eight color choices. The SLX retails for $16.95.

Mike Fedorow, Head Trainer at So Ca MX Training wrote: “In my many years as a motocross trainer, I can without a doubt, point to arm-pump as the #1 problem that plagues riders. While there are many theories on how to relieve this problem, I’ve found that the grips used by the rider make a huge difference and are ironically the most overlooked. Out of all the grips we tried and tested, the Spider SLX Slimline has proven to work the best. Not only does it reduce vibration, but the tacky rubber compound and durability make this grip superior to any other grip on the market. I highly recommend to all my students and to any who complain of arm pump, to try Spider’s SLX Slim Grips.”

Racer Perry Pritchard says “2 years ago I had a very bad crash while road racing, which left my clutch hand mangled. After all the surgeries and rehab my hand has still been a problem when riding at an intense level. I used the Spider Grips in the Phoenix race and frankly, I am totally impressed. I ran one stock grip and one Spider Grip; the stock grip gave my hand a workout, but the side with the Spider Grip did not even get tired. So I switched the grips around and the hand and forearm that had the Spider Grip on it did not get pumped. But the side that used the stock grip did in fact get bad, bad pump. Now I am a convinced user of Spider Grips, I can’t believe the outcome. Thank you for helping me to find a solution for my damaged hand.”

"With other grips I found my hands going numb from clenching the bars and the bike vibrations but with SpiderGrips I was able to ride longer and harder."
"Thanks SpiderGrips", Sincerely Rob Barnum

While Chris Haines of the Chris Haines Motorcycle Adventure Company was testing a set of Spider grips on a 1000 mile ride from Ensenada to Cabo San Lucas, one of his customers developed severe blisters early on in the ride. Chris removed the test grips from his own motorcycle and installed them on the bike his customer was riding. Now all of Chris Haines’ Motorcycle Adventure Company motorcycles and quads are equipped with Spider Grips.

Spider Grips are the best grips I have ever used! I even got GNCC pros Bill Ballance and Johnny G to switch to them. They both couldn't believe how much better they were than what they were using! Jeff@TheQuadShop

News and Reviews

Cycle News Project Bike 2002 is Spider Equipped
"The most inexpensive product put on the bike was the Spider grips - and they're one of the best investments of the bunch. Serfas has, for a long time, made bicycle grips and related products, but they recently developed the Spider Grips, which are probably the most innovative grips seen or used in a long, long time - maybe ever. I don't want to get into the technology involved in the grip too much, so let's just say that the tackiness and feel of these grips allow me to sort of just place my hand on the bars, instead of holding on with a death grip. Since I'm putting less energy into holding on, arm pump is improved a ton. Also, they seem to isolate vibration much better than any grip I've ever used. Definitely check out these grips." August 2002 Product Evaluation
Spider claims their Diamond Web, Dual Density design will shed water, lessen vibration and, most of all, reduce fatigue. To see if the new Spider grips are as good as they sound, we tried a few sets on some test machines. First a set was installed on a Polaris Sportsman that we use to trail ride and move things around on daily. Then a set was slipped on our duner Banshee that is equipped with a twist throttle, and the final pair went on our Meyer Racing pit scooter. All three sets mounted up solid with a little dab of grip glue and the MX style twist throttle, grips even had safety wire grooves so we wired'em up for a secure hold. The grips give a comfortable hold and perform as they claim. Vibration was reduced on the scooter, water drenchings on the 4X4 were made without problems and overall comfort on all machines was pleasant. (Dirt Wheels Magazine August 2002)

Diamond Spider Grips
The last thing anyone wants to do when they see a spider is grab one and squeeze it, which makes the idea of calling a set of grips the Spider Grips pretty strange. But that's the key to these grips, the Spider M1 Dual Density, ...is designed to be so comfortable that you'll use them no matter what they are called. They feature a cool Dual Density rubber compound that absorbs vibration. This pattented design utilizes two different rubber compounds laid on top of each other, and the different vibrating frequencies of each one cancels each other out, significantly reducing vibration. The grips also feature a soft, diamond-pattern design, an idea borrowed from bicycle grips, to provide a wide contact patch for the rider's hands, so you get better grip and less fatigue.
